We were handed a brief from GoTri, a company who encourage people to compete in a Triathlon in their local area. They set up events around the country for average people to experience what it might be like to swim, cycle and run in a triathlon event. They needed some promotional images of people getting involved in each aspect. They wanted the models to be average, every day people, not athletes. We booked a slot at our local swimming pool and shot a variety of images of models swimming and we shot running and cycling shots in our local park with …
We carried out a shoot for Adidas A-Line and Foot Locker Europe (FLE). This was for social media and some print. It involved a male model in an urban but plain and neutral coloured setting. We scouted a location in the centre of Leeds, but a last minute change meant we couldn’t use that particular spot. We moved the shoot to our studio as it’s situated in an old mill building so there are plenty of weathered, urban features around. The shoot turned out really well and we got some great shots.
As part of a promotion to advertise shopping in Leeds, a selection of reindeer models had been placed around the city centre. Each one had been sponsored by a Leeds business and decorated by them in their colours and theme. We were asked to shoot each one in situ and also to capture some video of people interacting with them (taking photos etc).
November is when we shoot the annual ‘Tree Catalogue’. We work on location with a team of stylists to prop and style the Christmas trees, garlands, wreaths and more making them look their best on screen. They are shot on white and edited to make sure the background is 0% ready for organising in the catalogue.
In November we were asked to shoot an All Blacks event for Adidas. This wasn’t just a run-of-the-mill reportage job, it was a lot more complicated. The New Zealand rugby team, the All Blacks, were playing in Ireland and 4 members of the squad were booked to come to a sports store in Dublin for the shoot. The concept was quite specific – to photograph members of the public in a huddle with 3 of the players. The camera angle had to be from below and wanted a black background and stadium style lighting. The photograph then had to be processed, printed out, put …
This year our client wanted to create an extra magazine for their customers. They wanted to highlight certain ranges of products, ‘Themes’, that go together based on colour or style. This would be given to their customers so they could arrange their purchases better. It would have colour swatches and recommendations. They were going to use existing images of the products on white but wanted some close up and in-situ images of the themes laid out in sets. We visited their showroom and spent the day shooting a variety of different styles.
Adidas released a range of camouflaged footwear exclusive to Footlocker. The needed some shots of these on location and as cutouts. The creative behind the campaign was to show the footwear on backgrounds that had similar colours to the shoes to hint at the camouflage design, but to make sure they still stood out. We sourced a variety of locations that were suitable and, working with the art director, shot a range of images for each colour way. This campaign was used extensively on Footlocker’s social media pages and received a lot of attention.
Every year we work on the TWT (TransWorld Trophies) catalogue. It’s a 250 page brochure which is printed twice, once for trade and then for the public. We photograph, retouch, cutout, proof, colour balance and deliver final PDFs to the printers. The products range from mirror reflective metal to clear and jade glass with around 800 shots this year. The photography is done and we’re currently working on the images to get them retouched and a path applied. The deadline for the final PDFs is around October.
We were asked to come to an Adidas photoshoot for Footlocker at a location in Manchester. It was at an old warehouse that was being rented out as a film and photography location. There were 2 teams, one shooting models wearing Adidas clothing, and the other, us, shooting the footwear in a wide variety of locations around the warehouse. We had a large range of footwear to shoot in one day and had to work alongside the other photographer to make sure our images related and that all the items had been shot.
An agency we work for has close ties to a local restaurant, The Agora in Leeds, and wanted to give them a much needed refurbishment to help boost business. They asked us to contribute some photography for their website, so we spent a day at the restaurant styling, photographing (and tasting!) a range of their dishes. We don’t specialise in food photography, but the client and the agency were very happy with the results. The updated website has just gone live so check it out: www.TheAgora.co.uk
